DIY Intimate Wedding | Propeller Coffee | Sonya & Isac

December 18, 2016

Let me start by saying – Oh these guys! I don’t know if I can love them more! Sonya and Isac are so fun to be around! I met Sonya a year before, heavily pregnant – I believe just few weeks before my 2nd baby came. When Sonya described her vision of their wedding, I was already super stoked! They own a custom engraved leather and suede Etsy shop called Grain Deep. I knew the wedding will be filled with some awesome DIY elements and I was right!

Their love story, their first date began at Royal York subway, so what is more fitting that doing their first look here! This picture truly makes my heart burst with joy! Thank you to MK Photographics for sharing these pictures with me!

Their diy intimate wedding was held at a coffee shop Propeller Coffee in Toronto. This little café is such a wonderful and unique space to have a wedding! It totally fit their both their personalities! All the wedding flowers created by The Rose Mint screamed Sonya and Isac too – the colours were fun, bright, and just happy! Like them! With their talents, they created a beautiful backdrop for their ceremony. They made these wooden engraved coasters as wedding favours which also serves as place cards. Laser etched table numbers, and wooden welcome sign, seating chart and menus.

When it comes to food – they had food catered from Barque BBQ. I mean bbq food for dinner, I’ll take it! And pop corn on each table instead of bread, SO fun! To top it off, for dessert instead of a traditional wedding cake, they had these amazing Portugese Tarts and donuts from Sanremo Bakery. !

And lastly, nothing beats good music to top off a great party! I have to admit, I totally dig their wedding playlist from first dance song (Adam Sandler Grow Old With You) to their open up the dance floor music – I was dancing along all night! But that was exactly their wedding – small, intimate and a heck of a good party!

Little Adventurer First Birthday

December 1, 2016

Planning a first birthday party for my little guy is always fun! As with anything, I always want to plan around their personalities. It may seem rather funny when I say this, but even at a young age, they do show great personalities of their own. So when it came to this guy, I knew the first birthday party theme had to be around “The Little Adventurer”/Adventure Awaits. Right from the start, he had shown signs of wanting to be independent, and loves to explore.

With 2 kids now, I have to admit it is a little tough to juggle and try to plan the birthday party with a budget in mind. We came across this lovely community centre -the historic Stiver Mill Cultural Centre in the heart of heritage Unionville. It was perfect the minute I walked in. It was big enough to fit 40 people maximum, but small enough to still feel intimate.

We kept it pretty simple, with a few simple décor. I looked high and low for custom printables that got my vision (I had specific ideas in my head, I can’t help it, I’m a planner! ), and stumbled upon this Australian Etsy Shop Penny Paperie Designs. Watercolours, camper van, the great outdoors and the world map. It all came together exactly how I envision it – banner, cupcake toppers, party hat, thank you cards, water bottle wrapper and straw flags. I highly recommend the shop, she was so accommodating and so quick at making changes.

Now on to the dessert table. I had to bake my own cake after all. I have always made my oldest son’s cake, all 4 years, and with no exception this first birthday cake. I decided to keep things manageable for me, I made a watercolour inspired cake to match the party décor. To dress up the cake, I had custom cake toppers made from Wishful Studios. I am so lucky to be in the wedding planning business and have met all these talented vendors I knew I can reach out to and count on. She designed my little guy laser cut wooden toppers – one which is a globe (to represent explore around the world), camper van and a teepee (to represent be adventurous). For some fun elements, I order custom confetti balloons from The Sweetest Thing Confection which my son LOVED!

For the rest of the dessert table, I ordered them from a small Portugese café called Lucky 20 Café close to my house, who also carries Dufflet dessert.

And so just like that, a year went by and he’s 1 year old. Thank you to Muse Moi Studios for coming and capturing some moments of us! It is truly special to have pictures to look back to as time passes way too fast, and kids grow up way too fast. Treasure the times, capture the moments.
